A pump radiation (121) is irradiated at the reflected areas (110a-1,110b-1) under an irradiation angle to a surface normal (N) to the reflecting areas. The areas reflect the laser radiation. The irradiation angle is different from zero degree. The reflecting areas are formed as reflective coating or as medium boundary. The body is made of crystal or polycrystalline or amorphous material. An independent claim is included for a method for operating an arrangement for optical pumping of a laser-active material.
