The method involves outputting a hysteresis characteristics curve (1) from an exactly defined point to a starting curve for digital computation. The curve is started from a starting point along an existing hysteresis characteristics curve. A new characteristic curve is calculated during a change of direction of the measurement, and a front reversal point is used on the characteristics curve as a new starting point for forming a changeable hysteresis loop during operation of a magnetic filed sensor, and an iterative model is used for the calculation. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for operating a magnetic field sensor.
