To determine the effective function of a hearing aid (4), the patient (2) is positioned with the ears (3) in a test zone (11) with a loudspeaker array (6) at a gap from the ears. The loudspeakers emit tones, through wave field synthesis, for the patient to indicate the hearing. The hearing aid is programmed to increase and/or decrease the received sound to normal levels.
