The device has a sheet metal (1) shaped into a hollow body (6) by an electromagnetic force (2). The sheet metal is fixable by a blank holder and/or a plunger during shaping. The sheet metal is fixed contactless in a holding down zone (7) during the shaping by an electromagnetic force (3). The electromagnetic force for fixing is adjustable and independent of the electromagnetic force for shaping. The forces are produced by coils (4, 5) e.g. flat induction coil, respectively. A flexible plate is arranged in an area between the coil (4) and the sheet metal. An independent claim is also included for a method for fixing a sheet metal.
