The device has a differential gear (11) comprising a drive side (12) and two output sides, where a drive motor (3) is in drive connection with drive side by a drive connector (15). The output sides drive a carriage (6) relative to mounting rails (4, 7). The rails have longitudinal axes (5, 8) that are perpendicular to each other. A manipulator (1) is fastened to the rail (7). A brake (9) operates between the carriage and the rail (4), and a brake (10) operates between the rail (7) and the carriage. The drive connector is implemented as roller chain, belt drive or spindle.
