The method involves providing a coding function e.g. asymmetric cryptographic coding function, by providing public keys (e, N) for the coding function, and personalizing the coding function based on an author identifier (p). A locally generated value (u) is provided, and an object identifier (R) is generated by coding the locally generated value with the personalized coding function based on the public key. The locally generated value is based on a biuniquely represented time, which is counted relative to a configurable reference time. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product comprising instructions to perform a method for local generation of an object identifier for an electronic object (2) a device for local generation of an object identifier for an electronic object.
