The circuit has a retarder bypass (4) formed by a 2/2-way control valve (5) that partially or completely guides a coolant e.g. water, via the retarder bypass to a retarder (2) or a retarder heat exchanger, in a switching position. The valve partially or completely closes the bypass, in another switching position. The valve is integrated in the circuit, so that the respective switching position of the valve is adjusted based on working medium pressure in the retarder, a working medium feed line or a working medium discharge line (18) of the retarder outside the bypass. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a control valve in a retarder bypass of a vehicle cooling circuit.
