The unit has a deflection pulley (7) for a traction mechanism drive of an internal-combustion engine and consisting of two parts (1, 2) that are pivotable to each other and are prestressed by a torsion spring (3) against each other. The part (1) is connected with the engine, and the part (2) has a lever (4) that is formed as a cast part. A protective element (10) is arranged in the area of a bearing (6) i.e. grooved ball bearing, at a side of the deflection pulley turned towards the lever for protecting the bearing at the side against environmental influences.
