The condenser (10) has a condenser pipe (12) for transporting a cooling agent to be cooled. The condenser pipe is guided through a container (20) and is immersed into a working fluid e.g. water, which is contained in the container. Fluid level of the working fluid comprises a predetermined space to a cover wall of the container, so that portion of the working fluid evaporates and condenses at the cover wall of the container. The container has a tank (22) for retaining the working fluid. The pipe is arranged parallel to a base of the tank. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a condenser for a cooling device e.g. refrigerator and freezer.
