The machine has an excitation winding (3) arranged in a rotor (2), where the winding is supplied with current via two slip-rings (4a, 4b), a stator (1) and a freewheeling diode (7). The freewheeling diode is arranged in the rotor, and a Zener diode (8) is attached between a shaft (9) of the rotor and the slip-ring (4b). A controller is arranged in the stator and has a controller-output stage (6) i.e. metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) transistor, for controlling an excitation-current. A load-sided terminal of the controller output stage is connected with a positive-sided brush (5a).
