The automatic spinning method involves preparing a fiber tuft of a fibrous strip (FB) by a powered release unit (5). The fibers are unhinged from the fiber tuft, and are accumulated in a spinning rotor (6) in the form of a fiber ring. The duration of the impinging of the spinning rotor with the purge air is controlled between the closure of the fiber tuft preparation phase and the beginning of the impinging phase corresponding to an adjustment value of duration of the intermediate phase. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a rotor spinning machine comprises a feeder for supplying fibrous strip to the powered release unit; and (2) a data medium with a computer program for performing the automatic spinning method for a spinning post of a rotor spinning machine.
