The unit has two transport roller pairs (11, 21) arranged along a transportation direction of the unit and comprising two rotatable rollers. The rollers of each transport roller pair contact in a contact area at its circumference and define a transportation path between the transport roller pairs. Adjacent transport roller pairs are arranged in the transporting direction and are rotatable to each other such that a spiral-shaped transporting path is formed. Distance between the transport roller pairs is smaller than the smallest length of sheets.
