The cover (10) has a netted thin line pre-fragmentation unit (18) for producing of splinter (22), where the cover is pre-fragmented via thin electron or laser beam, via which the material removal of the cover does not take place and a linear structural change (20) of defined depth of the material of the cover is achieved. The structural change reduces tensile strength in a narrow fragmenting zone upto a certain depth in a defined manner. The netted thin line pre-fragmentation unit exhibits constant grid space in a spatial direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for splinter defined pre-fragmentation of a cover of the projectile of a tubular weapon or of a warhead.
