The device (1) has a deflection device (10) and/or deflection units (200, 210) of a deflection device (20), adjusted independent of each other in a spreading value adjusting direction, so that length of web running sections of outer partial webs (A, C) between the deflection units and the device (10), and respective partial web displacements (TA, TC) of the partial webs are changed. The length of the sections is adjustable independent of each other in a breadth direction of a web (GB). The deflection units are adapted to different web breadths (BB). An independent claim is also included for a rotary printing press comprising a printing unit with a plate cylinder.
