The method for unloading a reactor core entails the withdrawal of an individual fuel element arranged centrally inside the reactor lattice so that a coherent, especially rectangular region of non-occupied lattice cells is formed. Successive withdrawal then takes place of the fuel elements directly adjacent to the outer periphery of this region of non-occupied cells so that this region is correspondingly enlarged, followed by continuation of the individual withdrawal processes so that coherent regions of non-occupied lattice cells are formed in succession from the inside outwards.
