The device has a sensor line (12) for monitoring function of a flexible heating conductor (11), and separated from the heating conductor by an intermediate isolation (13). A detection circuit (20) e.g. controllable oscillator or field programmable gate array, activates sensor signals tapped by the sensor line. A control device (30) controls or regulates temperature produced by a heat unit, and evaluates the signals in an evaluation device. The sensor line is integrated into the detection circuit as a component causing signal change.
