The equalizer (1) has a quantizer (3) arranged at an output side to measure an output signal, where an input signal is supplied to a forward filter (2) e.g. finite impulse response (FIR) filter. The output signal of the quantizer is supplied to a rearward filter (4). An adder (5) is connected between the forward filter and the quantizer, where the output signal of the rearward filter is supplied to the adder. A quantization error circuit (7) determines the quantization error of the quantizer, where the components are suitably designed to work in polar coordinates (r, phi). An independent claim is also included for a method for equalizing a modulated signal.
