The circuit has two switching elements (1, 4) i.e. switching transistor, two electric rectifiers (2, 5) i.e. rectifier diode or electric rectifier transistor, a storage throttle (3), a storage capacitor (6), a measuring resistor (7) and a controlling and regulating unit (8). The switching elements are synchronously controlled such that the switching elements are always simultaneously conductive and always simultaneously closed, when an input voltage (U-e) is greater than X-quadrant of an output voltage (U-a) and is lesser than Y-quadrant of the output voltage. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a voltage transformer circuit.
