The engine has a piston (1) and a partially transparent cylinder barrel (2), where the barrel is totally or partially surrounded by a photoelectric layer (3) which controls admission of radiation energy. The barrel is surrounded by a chamber (4) lying outside of the layer. The chamber contains vacuum e.g. ultra high vacuum, or is filled with inert gas. The barrel is made of fiber-reinforced glass ceramic material. A heat storage (5) is surrounded from outside by foam glass/cellular glass or porous ceramic or metal foam.
