Gas discharge ignition method for mercury free halogen-metal vapor- high pressure discharge lamp of motor vehicle headlight, involves producing alternating field with frequency equal/larger than twenty kilohertz in medium for ignition
The method involves producing an electrical alternating field with frequency equal/larger than twenty kilohertz in a discharging medium between gas discharge electrodes (11, 12) and an ignition support coating (107) for ignition of the gas discharge, where the medium comprises metal halogenide and inert gas. The alternating field is produced using alternating voltage, which is applied at the electrodes. Field strength of the electrical alternating field, and amplitude of the alternating voltage are continuously increased, during time duration, until ignition of the gas discharge.
