Use of activated carbon obtained by the carbonization of organic material, as a supercapacitor, is claimed, where the activated carbon has: a specific surface area (Brauner-Emmett-Teller) of 1400-2000 m 2/g; a particle size distribution of 2-5 nm with an average particle size of 4-8 microns; and an ash content of less than 0.2. An independent claim is included for a supercapacitor comprising the activated carbon.
