The circuit has an evaluation device (AE) for detecting power consumption of small devices (G) attached to output connections (A1, A2) and for outputting control signals in form of impulses depending on the detected power consumption of the devices. A switching device supplies the control signals for adjusting operating conditions of a transformer (T) depending on the control signals. Another switching device automatically adjusts normal operation of the transformer during existence of the control signal and standby-operation of the transformer during existence of another control signal.
