The shift knob (1) has a knob body (1a), where a compass (2) is arranged in the shift knob. The compass is detected optically for an operator. The compass is formed as a mechanical compass. The shift knob has a transparent upper part (1b) which surrounds the compass in a partial manner. An independent claim is included for a switch with a gear shift linkage.
