The center has a tool carrier (1) provided in linear movement axes (X, Y, Z) such as horizontal longitudinal axis, horizontal transverse axis and vertical yaw axis, and a tool storage rack (7) laterally arranged at a machine stand in a space-portal type. A handling device (9) at or in the storage rack is linearly moved in the linear movement axes. A tool changing system (6) is partially moved in and out to/from a front lateral work area of the center. A tool gripper (8) of the tool changing system is linearly moved in a horizontal direction and rotated to a horizontal plane.
