The method involves generating a stop requirement for an internal-combustion engine (12) of a motor vehicle (10), and triggering a stop process for the engine. A terminating condition is detected during the stop process by a start-stop-control unit (30). The stop process is cancelled when the terminating condition exists. The terminating condition is determined based on one of conditions selected from a group consisting of an operating position and/or operating speed of an accelerator pedal (20) and/or a clutch pedal (24) and/or a brake pedal (26) and/or a gear selector lever (22). An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a starting unit for starting an internal-combustion engine.
