The method involves performing an automatic positioning and/or shape determination of objects (1a-1c) to be examined. Target focus regions (7a-7ges) is determined from positions and/or shaped of the object to be examined. Change of a position and/or change of a position of the object is automatically displayed in a changing direction relative to a receiving unit (13) of a tomography system (3). The target focus region is relatively moved in a direction of a device specific focus region (11) of the tomography system. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a control device for optimized orientation of an object to be examined in a tomography system (2) a tomography system comprising a bearing device for an object to be examined (3) a computer program product directly loaded into a processor of a programmable control device for an adjusting device, comprising a program code for performing a method for optimized orientation of an object to be examined in a tomography system.
