The device (2) has a brakeable drive spindle (6) with a tool flange (4) for a rotatably driven tool (8). A clamping nut (10) clamps the tool against the tool flange in a torque-proof manner and screwed on a free end of the drive spindle. A deforming unit (12) increases an axial surface pressure exerted on the tool during braking of the drive spindle, when the tool is not broken synchronously with the drive spindle. The deforming unit is arranged on the side of the tool, where the side is turned away from the tool flange. The deforming unit is designed as a component of the clamping nut.
