The arrangement has an illumination unit including a beam splitter (5) i.e. reflector, made of glass or a deflection element for producing an optical path for reflected light- or transmitted light illumination. The splitter or the deflection element uncouples the light from an illumination beam path and transmits the light at a position of a microscope ergonomic for an observer. The splitter or the element indicates the uncoupled light at the position of the microscope. An uncoupling area is matted to the splitter or the element for controlling a dazzle effect by the uncoupled light.
