The switchable cam follower (1) has a coupling unit (14) and a driving surface which is available either as a bore or as semi-shell shaped material recess below the transverse bracket (16) of the lever. The surface axial guide surfaces (20,21) run together with a clearance fitted directly into the area of the end (5) of the cam follower at the outer sides (18) of the inner lever (4) and at the inner sides (19) of the outer lever (2). The surface axial guide surfaces communicate with each other.
