The engaging device is provided with an actuator (111), and the engaging support is formed at or in connection with a selector shaft (112). The engaging device includes a movable support (132) e.g. single-arm lever type ratchet (134), with an engaging surface (138) cooperating with the engaging support and an actuating surface (140) cooperating with the actuator. A return spring (142) exerts pretensioning force on the support opposite to an operating direction of the actuator. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle manual transmission, comprising a transmission housing.
