The device (1) has a square-cut shaped body (2) with a display area (3) and another display area, which are viewable in an operating position. A third display area and a fourth display area are viewable in another operating position. Light source e.g. LEDs, are arranged on the display areas in a matrix fashion for displaying optical information with representation of alphabetic characters and/or symbols. The body is movable from the former operating position into the latter operating position by a rotary motion, and vice versa.
