Preparing an alkyltrichlorosilane compound (I), comprises hydrosilylation of trichlorosilane with an alkene compound (II) in an aprotic organic solvent having a nitrile group, such that silicon-hydrogen bonds of trichlorosilane are activated with two organic carbon bonded nitrogen atoms. Preparing an alkyltrichlorosilane compound of formula (RSiCl 3) (I), comprises hydrosilylation of trichlorosilane with an alkene compound of formula (CH 2=CHR) (II) in an aprotic organic solvent having a nitrile group, such that silicon (Si)-hydrogen (H) bonds of trichlorosilane are activated with two organic carbon bonded nitrogen atoms. R : CN, -CH 2Cl, -CHCl 2, -CCl 3, -CH 2Br, -CH 2-CN or a substituted aryl radical.
