The method involves joining pre-formed bend-proof surface element and a fixable surface element under application of an adhesive as an intermediate layer that balances a form deviation. The flexible surface element is fixed at a form matrix that provides a predetermined form of a surface, during adding and hardening of the adhesive. A surface structure is formed with a stiffening plate (3), which is designed corresponding to the form of the surface guiding the printing substrate, where the stiffening plate exhibits perforations (5). An independent claim is also included for a drum cover for a transfer drum in a printing machine.
