The device has a primary drive (18) electrically connected with a control- and evaluation unit (16), and a secondary drive (20) designed as a gas pressure damping unit. The control- and evaluation unit evaluates an electrical signal of the primary drive to detect an operation condition of the secondary drive by comparing actual-signals of the primary drive with a threshold-signal. The secondary drive supports the primary drive in an opening direction of a vehicle wing (10) and works against the primary drive in a closing direction of the vehicle wing.
