The method involves providing burning material from bottom of a gasification body (4) by a mechanical device outside a reaction chamber. A gasification agent (15) is provided in a base area of the body. The agent, a product gas and the material are upwardly guided against gravitational force. The gas is evacuated from the top of the body. The agent is provided at a distance from a wall of the body. The agent is not mixed with the material such that an isolated coke bed (8) surrounding an oxidation zone (10) and a reduction zone (9) is formed. An independent claim is also included for a device for gasification of a hard carbonaceous gasification product.
