The tool has a pressing die and an anvil and/or cutting block (4) assigned to a base body. A crimp contact i.e. retaining protector socket (5), is arranged between the die and the anvil. A holding-down device (1) is assigned to the anvil and/or cutting block. The holding-down device has a pneumatic cylinder (12) with spring function and holds the crimp contact on the block during a crimping process. A disk (6) lifts the block during traversing a plane for cutting a retaining protector socket from carrier strips. Pressure of the cylinder is constantly held in a preset position.
