Steel wire used for electric-arc metal-spraying of e.g. vehicle engine cylinders, comprises micro-alloyed steel containing carbon, which solidifies with bainite and martensite content
The spraying wire is a micro-alloyed steel containing carbon. On solidification of the sprayed material, bainite and martensite arise. The following alloying constituents are used; all are expressed as mass percentages of the total weight: C 0.45-0.55, Si 0.40-0.65, Mn 1.4-1.6, Cr 0.15-0.35, Cu 0.25-0.35, Al 0.15-0.25 and V 0.08-0.13. The following constituents are present, expressed as mass percentages: P up to 0.045, S 0.05-0.06, Mo up to 0.03 and Ti up to 0.001. The wire surface is coppered. To coat a substrate (1) the wire forming the sprayed material (4) is melted in an electric arc (5) and deposited as a layer (2) on the substrate. Following deposition, on setting, perlite, bainite and martensite are formed. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR the corresponding method.
