The device has a light source i.e. LED, and a representation mechanism for representation of a traffic sign on a display area (3). A controller monitors and evaluates sensors e.g. temperature and brightness sensors, which are responsive to external influences. The controller controls the mechanism, where brightness of the mechanism is changeable based on values supplied from the sensors. A transmitter module transmits signals resulting from evaluation of the sensors according to universal mobile telecommunications system. An internal power supply e.g. battery, is provided. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a display device.
