The torque converter (10) has a claw coupling (140) that serves for coupling with a turbine (32) in an operation mode to enable a rotation of the turbine in a direction. The claw coupling is coupled with a drive shaft (20) of a drive. Another claw coupling (142) serves for coupling with a stator (68) and is coupled with a fixed shaft (18) of the drive. The claw coupling (140) serves for coupling with the stator in another operation mode to enable the rotation of the stator in another direction that is opposite to the former direction. The coupling (142) serves for coupling with the turbine. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a torque converter in an operating mode.
