A magazine receiving structure and a library apparatus incorporating this construction are provided in which, with a small number of components and a simple construction, it is possible to control step by step how far a magazine is extended. The magazine 3 has a rail 321 mounted on its underside 32 approximately parallel to a retraction / extension direction, the rail 321 having a plurality of stepped portions 322 formed on a side surface of the rail. An apparatus body 2 comprises: a lock lever 211 rotatably mounted within the same plane as the bottom 32 of the magazine 3, the lock lever 211 having a portion located in a space below the magazine 3 and another portion thereof is located next to the magazine 3; a spring 23 urging in a direction in which the rail 321 is mounted, so that a portion of the lock lever 211 located in a gap below the magazine 3 is engaged with the stepped portion 322; and an access device 4 that moves adjacent to the magazine 3 in the retraction / extension direction. The locking lever 211 engaged with each stepped portion 322 is triggered so that the accessor 4 pivots the locking lever 211 in a direction opposite to the tightening direction of the spring 23.
