The slitter (10) has a rolling section (20) for rolling of machine rolls (25), where the rolling section includes a movable protection device (64), a longitudinal slitting section (30) for cutting a web (W) into partial webs (W') and a winding section (40) of the partial webs. The web runs from one of two directions between the rolling section and the longitudinal slitting section during rolling in such a way that the web runs partially downwards from the machine roll to web guiding devices (58, 60) and between any part of the movable protection device and the machine roll.
