The support strut for protective grills for fans consists of a flat profile multiply angled over its vertical edge, with means to accommodate the fan connected to the flat profile's free inner ends orientated towards the fan, and means for the fastening of the protective grill on or in a wall connected to the opposite lying outer free ends. The means to accommodate the fan and/or the means for the fastening of the protective grill are component parts of the support strut. An independent claim is included for a method for the manufacture of a support strut in which angling of the flat profile is produced by bending over its vertical edge, and means to accommodate the fan and/or means for the fastening of the protective grill are formed directly on the flat profile by at least one bending action of the profile's free ends.
