The invention relates to a device for the reliable control of an electromagnetic brake, comprising a brake coil which can cause the brakes to be released, counteracting the spring force of spring elements, when supplied with a current. Said device is also provided with a transformer, the primary winding of said transformer being mounted in series with a switch that can be operated in a clocked manner for regulating the current in the primary winding. Said switch can be controlled by a first circuit block supplied by a control voltage and is connected to means for detecting the current in the primary winding. The brake coil is supplied by the secondary coil of the transformer.
