A contact system (2) comprises a contact bridge (15) swiveling about a joined axis (16) and having a moving contact (11b,12b) on opposite bridge ends (13,14) that can each contact (K1,K2) a fixed contact point (11a,12a). The axis can be displaced along a guide (17) so that only one contact (K1) opens in normal operation while both open if there is excess current or a short circuit. An independent claim is also included for a switchgear comprising the above.
