PURPOSE: Provided is a genetic modification of plants for enhanced resistance and decreased uptake of heavy metals, thereby developing plants capable of growing in the heavy metal contaminated soil and containing decreased amount of Pb and Cd. CONSTITUTION: The method for producing a genetically modified plants for enhanced resistance and decreased uptake of heavy metals comprises the steps of: (a) preparing an expression cassette containing the nucleotide sequence which encodes P type ATPase protein transferring heavy metals and is connected under control of transcription and translation controlling factors which can be expressed in plants; (b) constructing an expression vector containing the expression cassette; and inserting the expression vector into plant cells or tissues, wherein the P type ATPase is ZntA; the nucleotide sequence encoding the P type ATPase has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1; the ZntA has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2; and the heavy metal is As, Sb, Pb, Hg, Cd, Cr, Sn, Zn, Ba, Bi, Ni, Co, Mn, Fe, Cu or V.
