METHOD FOR PROCESSING SHIPMENTS INCLUDING GRAPHIC CLASSIFICATION OF SIGNATURES ASSOCIATED WITH SHIPMENTS

In a postal mail sorting process, signatures are derived from the images of shipments and serve as identifiers for shipments in the sorting process. We group (43) signatures into categories of signatures or graphical classes (CG) according to a certain graphical similarity criterion to calculate an average signature value for each graphical class. For each graphical class considered, an activity of the average signature value is analyzed to detect a significant activity of an information block in the digital images. The results of said activity detection are used for the search for concordance in the second sorting pass between a current signature and signatures recorded in the first sorting pass.
