The device has a sub-assembly (1) with a sensor that varies electric characteristics of a resonant electric circuit. The sub-assembly (1) produces an oscillating signal in response to excitation from a sub-assembly (2). Excitation units (21) are designed to transmit a magnetic excitation signal to the sub-assembly (1) in a limited zone with reciprocal influence from the sub-assemblies (1, 2). The sub assembly (1) responds to the excitation signal by producing a dampened oscillating signal. A reading unit (22) is designed to determine the characteristics from the oscillating signal.
