The device has a transfer piston (13) displaced between bases of a driving cavity. A regenerator (21) renders the temperature of the gas close to the temperatures of the absorber and piston (12) when work gas is transferred on the absorber and piston (12), respectively. An elastic bellow permits self-starting of the device by provoking return of the piston and recaptures lateral efforts exerted in a crank head at the level of the piston (12). The piston (12) is made of composite material with carbon fiber in aluminum matrix.
