The invention relates to a membrane gas meter comprising a rotary distribution drive having a plurality of measuring chambers, and a distribution slide (2) mounted in such a way that it can rotate about a rotational axis on the upper surface of a distribution cover (1) provided with a plurality of openings which are each connnected to a measuring chamber, the distribution slide (2) enabling the gas to alternately enter and leave the measuring chambers during its rotary movement about the rotational axis. The distribution cover (1) comprises an outer sealing crown (15a) which is essentially concentric to the rotational axis and has a plane upper edge on which slides the outer contact surface (25) of the distribution slide, forming a sliding interface (28) between the outer sealing crown (15a) and the outer contact surface (25). The invention is characterised in that the gas meter also comprises a protection skirt (30) tightly surrounding the periphery of the outer contact surface (25) and comprising a peripheral wall extending towards the cover (1) in such a way as to cover the sliding interface (28).
