The element (3) has a fixation unit comprising walls (9, 10) for fixing a cylindrical tube (11) in the side rail element to locally reinforce the resistance of the side rail element to axial compression. The tube is made of composite material. The wall (9) closes a front end (12) of a front side rail (1). The walls are fixed transversal to the side rail element by welding upper and lower wings (7, 8) using a core (6). An independent claim is also included for a method for fabricating a side rail.
